CLARKSBURG, Mass. (May 20, 2014) – It’s been said that experience is the best teacher in almost any subject. Never was that statement any more accurate than in the world of snowmobile racing, where there are often more variables than you’ll find in a complex mathematical equation.

Officials at East Coast Snocross (ECS) are pleased to announce that veteran race official Shawn Achilles will assume the duties of General Manager effective immediately. Achilles, of Readsboro, Vermont, started racing snowmobiles in the late 1990s, then joined the staff at Rock Maple Racing in 2003. For the last 11 winters, he has been trackside at every race, working in a variety of roles.

“I’m excited to move into this position, and honored that new series owner Kurt Gagne has placed his trust in me,” Achilles said. “I think with Kurt at the helm, we really do have a lot to look forward to at ECS. I’ve already started preparing information for our sponsors and race sites; we know how fast the off-season goes by and want to be sure we’re ahead of the curve.”

In his new role, Achilles will coordinate with staff, serve as a liaison between the series and its valued marketing partners, as well as visit potential new venues that might be a good fit for ECS. His skills working with people and in-depth knowledge of the sport will serve the series well.

“Our relationships with fine companies like AMSOIL, Woody’s, New England Race Fuels and several others are key to our long-term success. Kurt and I value their support and will do our very best to ensure they get a solid, measurable return on their investment. I’ll also strive to bring some new partners into the ECS family. Another goal is to expand our fan base. Without them, we have nothing.”

Achilles, 41, is right on the money when it comes to priorities. Keeping those marketing partners happy and drawing in more fans is what the series needs to survive. As this stagnant economy begins to turn around, his energy and enthusiasm should create opportunities for the series to grow.

“This series, whether back in the RMR days or more recently as ECS, has always had a good reputation as to how our race weekends flow. We’ve been blessed with good racers, heads-up officials and respect from the industry. I’ll work to continue that positive image for both Kurt and ECS itself.”

East Coast Snocross has been the training grounds for some of today’s top stars. Former national riders like Chris Vincent and TJ Gulla honed their skills on the old Rock Maple circuit. Today, ISOC athletes like Jake Scott, Corin Todd and now Lincoln Lemieux came directly out of ECS. It is a regional series full of aspiring talent, and many more riders will follow those footsteps in the coming years.

East Coast Snocross, presented by AMSOIL and Woody’s Traction, is the eastern affiliate of International Series of Champions (ISOC), the national sanctioning body for snocross. ECS strives to maintain a regional circuit intended to keep grass-roots snocross racing healthy in this part of the Snowbelt, while also cultivating new talent for tomorrow’s factory-backed Pro teams.
