This weekend marked the 38th annual World Championship Watercross race held in Grantsburg, Wisconsin. The weekend made for some great racing action with close competition on the small coarse of Memory Lake.

Grantsburg is where Watercross originally held it’s first competition in the summer of 1977 when racers would simply try making it as far as they could off the island on Memory Lake in downtown Grantsburg. With the competition growing each year, a few pioneers to the new sport of Watercross decided it was time to form an organization to help with some rules and regulations to help the sport progress into a safe and fair place for the new breed of snowmobile racers. The International Watercross Association was founded in 1988. The I.W.A. is a non-profit organization that holds a number of races throughout the midwest each summer. The I.W.A. circuit is ran by former and current racers and has helped turn Grantsburg into one of the biggest summer snowmobile events. The World Championship is held Friday through Sunday where fans can be close to the action, interact with the racers and then enjoy the greatest firework display in region followed by a street dance. The venue also offers venders plenty of space to set up and make Grantsburg a must stop to snowmobile enthusiasts.

Overall the 38th Annual World Championship’s went off without a hitch. With an abundant support from the town of Grantsburg, the World Championship will be a favorite summer event for years to come!
